HMRC Benchmark Expense Claims

It makes me laugh so much every time I see umbrella companies suddenly send out panic announcements explaining how they are to now start adopting HMRC Benchmark Scale Rate allowances for expense claims… like they are trying to set their own benchmark to which they feel others should follow, when in reality, they have been allowing expense claims to merely win new business and now upset agencies and contractors as the net pay will clearly be impacted… if only they would have done it right in the first place, they wouldn’t be subject to investigation later.
We all know why some unorthodox and blatant claiming has been overlooked by umbrella companies in the past… to win business with agencies to show over inflated net pay figures to their contract workers, only to put both the agency and contractor at risk of tax avoidance!
Thankfully we have run the compliant service since we started, and yes we have won some worthy clients off the back of this due to us showing legitimate claiming methods.
Don’t be left out in the cold and subject to investigation by HMRC, engage and work with compliant providers from the get-go and sleep at night.
